On October 6, 2022, the research paper "From outsider to insider: How do parachute CEOs build trust through role perception management?" co-authored by our Associate Professor Dr. Hao CHEN, Professor Xiaoming ZHENG from School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University and Ph.D. student Ms. Ying ZHANG, whom they jointly supervised, won the Best Student Paper Award at the 10th Asian Management Research and Case Conference 2022. This case study explores how a parachute CEO effectively manages his role perception to gain leader legitimacy and becomes an insider after a merger and acquisition (M&A) in China. We develop a theoretical model to explain the mechanism of this process and provide practical implications to companies and managers.
